Have Juve found their new starting striker?
Juventus are in a tough spot with both strikers, Dusan Vlahovic and Arkadiusz Milik out with injuries. The good news is that they do have a temporary solution by moving Timothy Weah up top from the winger position.
Prior to Wednesday’s Champions League match against Aston Villa, Weah indicated that he likes his latest position as a False 9.
“I like it, it’s different,” he told Amazon Prime Video Italia.
“I hope to score tonight, as helping the team is the most important thing. I just have to do my job, if I can score or assist, then that’s perfect. The team has to work together and keep going.”
Unfortunately, Weah and the Bianconeri didn’t score and their match against Villa, which ended in a 0-0 draw. Despite the result, Juventus are in 19th place in the Champions League table, which means they’re eligible for the Champions League round of 16 playoff.
Getting back to Weah playing up top, he finished the match with a FotMob rating of 6.6, which isn’t great, but this is his first match as a No. 9 in a very long time. He’s played the position from time to time in the past for both the United States Men’s National Team as well as during his time with Ligue 1 side Lille.
I think it’s obvious that Weah’s best position is as a winger, but with Vlahovic and Milik out, he’s the best option that Juventus have right now until the winter transfer window comes around and they can add another striker.
The fact of the matter is that Juve are unfortunately not really missing both Vlahovic and Milik that much since Milik isn’t a world class forward and Vlahovic has been underachieving since arriving in Turin in 2022. For all we know, while both players are out, Weah could give them the production that manager Thiago Motta has been searching for at the striker position.
Feel free to comment below and give us your thoughts on Weah playing as a False 9.
