With Paul Pogba’s suspension over testing positive for performing enhancing drugs being reduced to 18 months, instead of the original four year sentence, he’ll be eligible to play football again this coming winter.
With that being said, it’s already been reported that Juventus have no intention of keeping Pogba. Their sporting director Cristiano Giuntol has made it clear that their roster is complete.
“Our position is clear. Pogba has been a great player, he has been out for a long time and last year we were forced to invest in other players,” Giuntoli told DAZN, via ESPN.
“So now the squad is complete as it is.”
Sky Sports is now reporting that Juve and Pogba are in advanced talks to terminate his contract. This means that their relationship is close to being over. And it looks like Pogba will be out at Juventus in time for the winter transfer window, which opens up in around six weeks.
The question now is, where will Pogba play next? He’s been out of football for some time. I would imagine that any interested clubs will bring him in for a workout to see what he looks like on the field before signing him to a contract.
An even bigger question is, can Pogba stay healthy once he’s back playing football? I would imagine his injury woes are a reason that Juventus have decided to move on from him.
Update: No surprise here, but Nicolo Shira reported on Tuesday that Juventus don’t plan on giving Pogba severance-pay and that they will definitely part ways.
Update: it’s now official, Pogba’s time at Juventus is over. He can now look for another club to play for.
Update: Here’s a statement from Juve regarding Pogba’s contract being terminated:
Juventus Football Club and Paul Pogba announce that they have reached a mutual agreement for the termination of their contract as of 30 November, 2024.
The club wishes Paul the very best for his professional future.
