Juventus and manager Thiago Motta were able to witness just how great of a striker Jonathan David is after he scored a goal against them this past Tuesday during their Champions League match against Lille.
Motta was even seen talking to David after the match and Corriere dello Sport is reporting that The Old Lady are interested in adding the young striker.
Since arriving at Lille in 2020, David scored 13 goals in 48 matches in 2020-21, 19 goals n 48 matches in 2021-22, 26 goals n 40 matches in 2022-23, 26 goals n 47 matches last season and as right now he has 13 goals in 18 matches. He’s clearly on pace to score the most goals in a single season in his career. At the age of 24 he’s simply only going to get better.
With David’s contract expiring next summer and it being unlikely that he signs a new deal, Lille could end up selling him during the January transfer window. The problem is that Juventus can’t add anymore EU signings this season and really can’t afford to sign him as well. All they can hope for at this point is to have the chance to sign him as a free agent next summer.
Current Juventus strike Dusan Vlahovic is a solid player but David would really take the Bianconeri’s attack to another level. Vlahovic has yet to prove that he’s a top-tier striker in Europe.
Aside from David, Juve have been also linked with Manchester United striker Joshua Zirkzee who’s had a rough start to his time in England and would likely welcome coming back to Italy in order to play for Motta and Juventus.
